Lessons from the Field #9
Culture Is Built in Small Moments
People often think culture is built through big meetings, mission statements, or motivational speeches. But in reality, culture is built in the small moments teams experience every single day.
It’s built in how leaders respond under pressure.
It’s built in whether standards still matter when the store gets busy.
It’s built in the conversations happening behind the counter, in the cooler, and during shift change.
It’s built in whether people feel supported, coached, appreciated, and held accountable.
The strongest teams are not created by occasional intensity. They are created through daily consistency.
As leaders, we have to remember that our teams are always watching what we tolerate, what we prioritize, and what we model. The little things become the big things over time.
Clean stores.
Customer-ready conditions.
Owning problems immediately.
Supporting each other during difficult shifts.
Showing respect even during stressful moments.
That’s culture.
Teams don’t believe what leaders say repeatedly.
They believe what leaders tolerate repeatedly.
